Overview

Once again we held our annual horror fest where we watch 3 horror movies in holiday celebration. This year we were joined by some that had never attended – welcome. We played horror movie bingo, which was a fun time.

The choices were interesting this year.

Strange Darlings

This one was interesting because it was told out of order. Loved it though.

Devil All the Time

This is a Netflix streamer, and not really a horror movie, though it appeared to be one. Still good movie. Some big names in this one.

The Last Matinee

This is a foreign film from Argentina. Not too many from that country. There cinema is a bit behind where we are, but its good to see they are making solid movies. The eyeball pickle jar is the best.

all right

00:00.72
Rhys
Yeah, true. It’s going well.

00:05.37
Stephen Schneider
all right we all set this should be a fun one so yeah yeah nice wrap up uh to our 2025 horror-thon which was interesting in many many ways we had several people that haven’t come before including your wife who doesn’t really care for horror

00:10.42
Rhys
Yeah, I always enjoy these.

00:22.63
Rhys
Yep.

00:24.48
Stephen Schneider
And the horror movies chosen, we we did it without knowing a whole lot about them, but they had a lot of similar themes and one wasn’t even really much of a horror, even though it got pushed as a horror.

00:35.77
Stephen Schneider
So that made it interesting. Great movie though. you know, let’s talk a little bit about those and let everybody know what they’re like to go watch.

00:44.41
Rhys
Yeah. Uh, first on the docket, we had a film called strange darling. Um, that movie was from 2023. It ran an hour and 37 minutes. It is an American film. It was filmed in Oregon.

00:59.77
Rhys
It had a $4 million dollar budget and pulled in $7 million.

01:03.16
Stephen Schneider
Wow.

01:04.65
Rhys
Um,

01:06.00
Stephen Schneider
Nice.

01:06.67
Rhys
um

01:06.73
Stephen Schneider
Wow.

01:07.93
Rhys
3 million in the U S and Canada alone ah for the box office, which it was distributed by Miramax. And apparently Miramax wasn’t too happy. They thought they would make more money off of it on the original box office release.

01:19.90
Rhys
um And in fact, Miramax actually played with this quite a bit. It was written by a guy named JT Molnar and directed by him. And when it was done, they decided they were going to um reedit the whole thing with a new director.

01:36.14
Stephen Schneider
but

01:38.18
Rhys
Um, so they were going to do that and they, they did a version of it like that where they did it in consecutive instead of jumping around.

01:48.81
Stephen Schneider
ah I knew that’s what you were going to say.

01:51.82
Rhys
Yep. And he had a section, he had a clause in his contract with them that if they did that, they would take the director’s cut and their cut and screen them before audiences and whichever one would play better is the one that they would distribute.

02:06.54
Rhys
And of course, his is the one that played better, so that’s what got distributed.

02:10.03
Stephen Schneider
Oh, yeah, which absolutely. So. yeah ah just without giving too much away on it, it’s told as a serial is how they present it, but it’s told out of order. And yeah, shows like that are interesting.

02:20.33
Rhys
Yes, it’s non-sequential.

02:23.57
Stephen Schneider
And they, they, you know, definitely with, if this would have been done in order, it would have lost pretty much all impact and would have been a pretty boring, straightforward ah movie.

02:34.98
Stephen Schneider
It’s not, it’s kind of a slasher, but it’s more a psycho than slasher.

02:38.81
Rhys
Yeah. In fact, the audiences watched it.

02:40.34
Stephen Schneider
But,

02:43.36
Rhys
The one from Miramax where it was in order by the time it got to the second section, they already knew exactly what was going on.

02:50.00
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. Yeah. and And I was kind of figuring out what was going on just because of the type of movie I knew it was. um But it definitely was much more interesting the way it was told.

03:02.79
Stephen Schneider
ah

03:02.82
Rhys
Yeah.

03:03.80
Stephen Schneider
You know, it’s like one of those TV shows where, They show ah you know this scene and then it says 72 hours earlier. And that’s how it starts after the of credits and stuff.

03:12.68
Rhys
right

03:16.39
Stephen Schneider
So it it was I thought it was a great movie. They did it very well. And I’m so glad that it didn’t get ruined by Miramax, which, you know, how many times have we said, oh, the executives think they know better and put their finger in and ruin it.

03:30.11
Rhys
Yep. And, you know, a lot of people agree with you. it got 26 nominations and six wins as far as the award circuits. So. um I thought it was really interesting. There’s a couple really interesting pieces, parts to this.

03:44.77
Rhys
um If you go through and you watch the credits where it gets to the thank yous, ah Tiffany Haddish gets one. Don’t know why. um de Wallace gets one.

03:55.94
Stephen Schneider
yeah Oh, wow.

03:56.83
Rhys
Don’t know why see Wallace is in there. um Giovanni Ribisi did a little bit of voiceover with it. But this was also his first full-length major motion picture that he ran as cinematographer.

04:15.17
Stephen Schneider
Interesting.

04:15.42
Rhys
He’s done shorts and videos before, but never a full movie. And I thought i thought the camera work was immaculate.

04:22.20
Stephen Schneider
Yeah, we were talking about that, how cool some of the camera work was and how interesting that part of it was. It it definitely felt like a small indie film ah that is wasn’t quite as small and indie as it felt. And it was you know done really well. i thought i I thought it was my favorite of the three of the night.

04:43.63
Rhys
Yeah, I’d have to agree with you. um And it it was indeed like JT Molnar comes from Vegas. um he’s He was into horror all his life. His family runs ah what they call horror shows, but it’s like a haunted houses in Las Vegas. They have like their own company that does this. So he’s been in this genre, but it’s not like it’s not like Oz Perkins where like He is like some cinema darling who came in and did this.

05:13.80
Rhys
Um, he’s directed 10 films. Eight of them are shorts. Uh, he has one full length other film called outlaws and angels that came out before this one. Um, he’s got nine completed screenplays as well. And he’s got one upcoming screenplay, which is the long walk.

05:32.09
Stephen Schneider
ah yeah that’s out now actually

05:34.52
Rhys
It is. They don’t have. Yeah. Um, he has one other film coming up called blackbird. There’s not much out there. He wrote it. D Wallace will be in it.

05:45.82
Rhys
Um, but it, if I had to guess, it looks like he doesn’t have a director yet because there hasn’t been any direction, you know, moving forward with it, but he has a screenplay. He’s got his star.

05:58.42
Rhys
He’s just, you know, waiting to button everything else up. So,

06:01.67
Stephen Schneider
yeah Well, it was definitely a good piece. People should check that one out. And this, the other, ah the second one I had heard about, but this one, I hadn’t heard about it till you brought it up.

06:13.09
Stephen Schneider
And we watched the trailer and I was like, oh, that, and it was rough because,

06:13.54
Rhys
yeah

06:17.47
Stephen Schneider
yeah you you presented three choices for film one. And one of them, I said, okay, we’ll disqualify that. Cause I think it it was smile and you’d already seen it. So I’m like, let’s go with stuff. Neither of us have seen.

06:28.43
Stephen Schneider
And then the other two choices, both of them looked really good. And I just couldn’t decide. I’m glad I went with this one. ah Yeah, pretty much.

06:35.76
Rhys
Flip a coin.

06:37.59
Stephen Schneider
I think I watched the trailers a dozen times on each.

06:41.45
Rhys
Um, it and I always love it when they do this, they don’t name their characters. So um the woman in this is called the lady and she was played by Willa Fitzgerald.

06:46.69
Stephen Schneider
Right.

06:52.56
Rhys
um Who’s from Tennessee. She’s done 43 working pieces. The one that you probably know her best from. She was in the first season of Reacher. He was the ingenue police officer who worked with him.

07:03.41
Stephen Schneider
Oh, yeah. Okay. Wow. Didn’t even recognize her.

07:07.33
Rhys
And Kyle Gallner played the The demon. That’s, that’s how he’s made listed in in credits. He’s from Pennsylvania. He’s worked on 73 projects, including smile one and smile to the latest scream, the a nightmare on Elm street.

07:23.87
Rhys
And he was in Jennifer’s body, which is another good one out there. So.

07:28.77
Stephen Schneider
but Which I hear some people have wanted to do.

07:32.72
Rhys
Okay. yeah Oh, and Ed Bigley juniors in there. I love big, big junior.

07:38.51
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. And he was great. Him and his wife, the characters on there were super, you know, Oh, we’re ex hippies.

07:40.26
Rhys
Yeah, yeah

07:44.68
Stephen Schneider
Well, I’m more of an ex biker, you know, was, they were really good. Um, and they, they were in just a little while, but added a lot to it. There’s a lot of flavor throughout the whole movie.

07:54.95
Rhys
absolutely.

07:56.34
Stephen Schneider
So,

07:56.59
Rhys
But yeah, that was, I thought it was the best of the night. It was also solidly horror, which is more than I can say for the next one.

08:03.56
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. Which it’s a Netflix streamer and it has devil in the title devil all the time. And it was pushed as a horror movie off of Netflix. The trailer screams horror.

08:16.73
Stephen Schneider
Everything about it was pushed as a horror movie.

08:20.00
Rhys
Yeah, it really. So it reminded me of two films. It reminded me of Legends of the Fall.

08:26.57
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. That’s what you said. And it was like, yeah dead on.

08:29.39
Rhys
Yeah, it’s it’s one of those multi-generational stories where they’re like, here’s the main character, but we’re going to tell you how in the world he came to be even before he came to be kind of thing.

08:39.95
Stephen Schneider
Right.

08:40.60
Rhys
It has that big cinematic feel to it. um It also reminded me of Hold the Dark.

08:48.11
Stephen Schneider
e

08:48.88
Rhys
And when we did hold the dark, I said, you could argue this isn’t a horror film, but here’s why I thought it was. It had very gratuitous violence. Um, and it had this kind of element of the supernatural that was laced throughout it.

09:03.07
Rhys
This doesn’t have either really.

09:04.98
Stephen Schneider
but Right. it’s as

09:06.00
Rhys
And

09:06.83
Stephen Schneider
It’s a period piece. Definitely.

09:08.44
Rhys
right. And I think that takes it out of the running as an actual horror film. um It’s from 2020. It’s two hours and 18 minutes as these kind of giant saga epics usually are.

09:20.29
Rhys
um It was filmed in the United States. There’s no budget information on it, but it’s funny because it’s set in West Virginia and Ohio, but it was shot in Alabama.

09:34.34
Stephen Schneider
Interesting.

09:34.51
Rhys
So.

09:35.30
Stephen Schneider
It looked a lot like Ohio area. Yeah.

09:38.47
Rhys
It did. Yeah. And I guess, you know, maybe uh, funding down there was more to their liking and you could get a more varied look. I don’t know.

09:49.42
Rhys
Ohio is a pretty varied state, but, uh,

09:51.29
Stephen Schneider
yeah But yeah, you mentioned, you know, the horror supernatural element. the It was hinting like it was going to be that, but it never did. It never was.

10:01.40
Stephen Schneider
There wasn’t anything like that. And it wasn’t even slasher crazy with the death. Like I said, it wasn’t horrific, but it had horrific deeds throughout the movie.

10:12.25
Rhys
Yeah. So like the big difference between this and a horror movie, they come across a man who’s been like flayed and crucified. And the amount of screen time that gets is like fractions of a second, as opposed to if if this had been, don’t know, yeah. And ever and all, it would have been a slow pan all the way down, you know? And that’s like the difference between the horror and, and not where they’ll decide where to look away.

10:42.48
Stephen Schneider
Right.

10:42.64
Rhys
Well,

10:43.18
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. You know, and again, good movie. I’d recommend it. I’d say it’s worth watching. It’s interesting. It’s got a star studied cast. I mean, it’s got Spider-Man and Batman and Bucky in it. So, you know, you get some superhero action going on. No, not really superhero action, but.

11:01.67
Rhys
well it was based on a novel from 2011 of the same name by a guy named Donald Ray Pollock. He actually was from knock him stiff, Ohio. that’s That was his hometown.

11:12.06
Stephen Schneider
would Which is a great name.

11:15.08
Rhys
um And he did the he was the narrator.

11:19.09
Stephen Schneider
Oh.

11:19.79
Rhys
So they had him do the narration of his own story. It’s the first time he’s ever done that kind of voiceover. um Jake Gyllenhaal was a producer on this film.

11:28.19
Stephen Schneider
Right, right. Some interesting names on producing and cinematography here in these couple movies.

11:34.43
Rhys
Yeah. he ah It was directed by an American director named Antonia… ah Campos. ah He’s married to a film editor named Sophia.

11:46.94
Rhys
I’m going to mess this up. Subra Kesso, maybe? ah She actually did editing on this project. He’s done 12 titles. He’s produced 16. He’s directed 12. He’s produced 16, including Martha Mary…

12:00.81
Rhys
Martha Marcy May Marlene. Easy for me to say, which is a great, a great movie. And that I would consider that horror. um He did an episode of Arkham that’s coming out soon. And he has a film titled The Beast in Me, which will be coming out soon. So.

12:16.43
Stephen Schneider
Interesting.

12:17.93
Rhys
But, yeah, you were talking about stars. It’s got Bill Skarsgård from it.

12:21.90
Stephen Schneider
Oh, right. Yeah. Him too. I forgot. Yeah. Pennywise.

12:25.05
Rhys
Tom Holland, who is ah ah Spider-Man.

12:26.90
Stephen Schneider
Spider-Man.

12:29.27
Rhys
It was supposed to have Captain America. The sheriff was supposed to be played by Chris Evans, who had a conflict with the date. So he suggested they use Sebastian Stan. And so you have Sebastian Stan, Bucky, come in and do that.

12:43.39
Rhys
Riley Kia from Hold the Dark ah was the honeypot

12:45.79
Stephen Schneider
right

12:49.81
Rhys
I suppose, for lack of a better word. um Jason Clark, who was in Pet Sematary, he was in this. um Harry Melling from Harry harry Potter series, the guy who played Dudley.

13:00.09
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. Right. We were sitting there and Gina looked at him said, Oh my God, that’s Dudley. We were all like, Oh, and then you could see it. You know, the his eyes were Dudley the whole time, but yeah, he did not play a good character in this one.

13:11.31
Rhys
Yep.

13:13.49
Stephen Schneider
It was, he was

13:13.94
Rhys
No. Bad things happen. Yeah.

13:16.33
Stephen Schneider
Yeah, but that describes the movie.

13:17.92
Rhys
and yeah

13:18.94
Stephen Schneider
That’s the tagline.

13:20.72
Rhys
Robert Pattinson was in this. He’s a sparkly vampire Batman. um

13:25.84
Stephen Schneider
and now an evil preacher.

13:25.88
Rhys
Mia was yes. Mia Wasikowska was in this. Um, and she’s from only lovers left alive and crimson peak.

13:34.22
Stephen Schneider
Oh, okay.

13:34.91
Rhys
Uh, so two more horror movies there. And Douglas Hodge was in this and he was on the Joker, which I thought was funny. Cause we had Batman in this as well, but, uh,

13:42.02
Stephen Schneider
All right. but And again, it’s a good movie. Just when you expect horror, it’s kind of like biting in into chocolate pudding and it tastes like sauerkraut.

13:53.98
Rhys
Okay, sure. Yeah. I mean, it, it definitely was surprising. And I think kind of, um,

14:06.52
Rhys
a kind of theme here is that when, when it reminds me of that Viggo Mortensen film, um, something about violence and it, it,

14:18.78
Stephen Schneider
Oh, right. Wow. I forgot about that. Yeah, right.

14:22.03
Rhys
Yeah, that was based on a graphic novel too. um But it it’s kind of like violence begets violence is kind of the theme kind of thing that seems to work here really well.

14:36.27
Rhys
And it kind of worked with the first one too, a little bit.

14:39.96
Stephen Schneider
Right.

14:40.04
Rhys
ah Because a lot of the violence was being perpetrated because violence was done in the first place, but

14:46.63
Stephen Schneider
Right. Right. And in this one, they they took out the dog. Not only that, they really showed it. I mean, that, that was graphic. I wouldn’t push that into the horror realm at all, but it was very graphic.

14:58.25
Rhys
Yeah. Yeah, it was. I think it was because the dog had such a close, obvious connection with the boy. It made it that much more powerful to make it a thing.

15:04.87
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. Yeah. It’s definitely a nice piece.

15:10.13
Rhys
Yeah, it’s certainly, it’s a great movie. Just wait until November 2nd to watch it.

15:16.80
Stephen Schneider
you go.

15:18.36
Rhys
Yeah, it does. It does have that kind of autumnal feel to it. You know, it feels like the kind of movie that you would watch in the fall.

15:26.32
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. Yeah.

15:26.98
Rhys
Um,

15:27.93
Stephen Schneider
It’s a good choice to go between horror movies and Christmas movies.

15:31.36
Rhys
sure Yeah, let’s call it a Thanksgiving movie. They eat in this.

15:34.58
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

15:35.63
Rhys
There’s a lot of picnics.

15:35.71
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. Right. They celebrate life.

15:39.54
Rhys
Yes. ah Which brings us to our last film.

15:44.75
Stephen Schneider
Another one we really didn’t know much about. Kind of chose by throwing a dart.

15:49.04
Rhys
Yeah, and it turns out it’s not surprising we didn’t know much about it. It was called The Last Matinee. It came out in 2020. It was an hour, 28 minutes. This is solidly a horror movie, not just a horror movie. This is a slasher.

16:01.10
Stephen Schneider
Very much. Yep.

16:02.64
Rhys
um It was, i had said this before, it it was an Argentinian film, which I have had Argentinian films on in my list, but it was done in partnership with Uruguay and Mexico. So this would be the first Uruguayan film I have on my database of horror movies that I’ve seen.

16:22.18
Stephen Schneider
I wonder if, you know, the Uruguay film people are wanting to ramp up and, you know, it’s easy to partner with someone that’s done it and learn a little bit about and the money and get the name out there, you know, start building it up.

16:37.00
Stephen Schneider
ah You know, that maybe that’s why they don’t have a lot, but maybe they’re working on it.

16:41.16
Rhys
It was filmed in Uruguay on a budget of about $400,000.

16:43.20
Stephen Schneider
Oh, well, okay.

16:46.60
Rhys
So it was distributed ah in the U.S.

16:47.26
Stephen Schneider
Wow.

16:51.59
Rhys
by Bloody Disgusting. And again, that’s a real coin toss. And honestly, it’s kind of favored towards tails on those.

16:59.69
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

17:00.03
Rhys
good You know, about two-thirds of those films are just really not. worth your time, but every once in while you get a little gem. And this was actually really good. It is actually a ah solid Jio film from South America.

17:14.16
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, there’s no question about what it is. It’s, it’s a guy running around killing people. I mean, they, they, they follow the classic formula. They don’t even really give a good reason for it. They just kind of start killing

17:29.66
Rhys
It’s true. And it, it does like, the and ti If you watch um Behind the Mask, The Rise of Leslie Vernon, and you take notes about what he says things have to be, and then you watch this, you can just sit there and check them off as you go along.

17:44.59
Stephen Schneider
like Right. Yeah. um And the best part, I mean, there’s there’s the one part that’s absolutely the best was the pickle jar of eyes that he collected with the melon baller and then ate.

17:58.89
Rhys
Yes. In fact, his name in the credits is like something I eater.

18:04.11
Stephen Schneider
Right, right. Your niece ah translated it because it was in Spanish and she translated that I eat your monster or something like that or kill her.

18:08.58
Rhys
Yeah.

18:12.75
Rhys
And this, this was the movie ah Steve provided us with horror bingo cards. And this was the movie that got a price bingo.

18:19.77
Stephen Schneider
yes

18:20.57
Rhys
ah Because it certainly had plenty of things to check off the list. It was written and directed by Uruguayan named Maximiliano Contenti. um He lives in Spain now.

18:33.03
Rhys
ah He’s written and directed 14 pieces. And he has one in the works called The Channeling. And it is a Uruguayan-American partnership. um And it’s about alien but alien abduction, I think.

18:46.58
Stephen Schneider
Oh, wow. Cool.

18:47.83
Rhys
So I don’t know i don’t know if it’s if it’s English language or not. I mean, like he has poster art already done. So this thing is like on the verge of coming out.

18:57.86
Stephen Schneider
Oh, nice. have to look for it.

18:59.35
Rhys
Yeah. the ah The cast was great.

19:03.94
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

19:04.72
Rhys
There’s no point in going over to them because they won’t have been in anything any of you will have known.

19:10.07
Stephen Schneider
Right.

19:11.37
Rhys
But I will mention one of them. ah Ricardo Islas plays the killer. um And the interesting thing about Ricardo Islas is he’s also a director and he directed a English language film in 2011 called Frankenstein day of the beast, which is the movie that’s playing in the theater where he’s killing everybody.

19:39.58
Stephen Schneider
Yes, nice. Yeah, it looked a little bit like a Hammer movie. So yeah you get two of his movies for the price of one.

19:45.56
Rhys
Yeah, so you’ve got Ricardo Islas’ film they’re playing, and then you’ve got Maxi Milano’s Contenti’s film that has the whole thing wrapped up. I thought that was really pretty cool.

19:55.33
Stephen Schneider
Yeah, that is. I’m glad you look…

19:56.50
Rhys
Yeah, you can use my movie, but you but you better put me in there. In fact, I want to be the killer.

19:59.68
Stephen Schneider
Right. Well, i mean, come on. If you were going to be in a ah horror slasher, wouldn’t you want to be the killer at least?

20:07.52
Rhys
I don’t know. I might prefer some sort of giant grisly death.

20:11.40
Stephen Schneider
Well, yeah.

20:11.67
Rhys
Disembowel me and

20:13.46
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. I think it’s something new. I just watched my blade Valentine cause it’s got one of Colin’s favorite, the hot dog water of death scene.

20:22.09
Rhys
Yep.

20:22.21
Stephen Schneider
but I don’t think that’s my favorite slasher kill.

20:22.33
Rhys
Yep.

20:25.95
Stephen Schneider
I mean, some of the new ones the last couple years have been pretty fun and inventive. I mean, that’s what you got to do now. If you’re going to straight out slasher, you got to do something inventive. The, the eating of the jar of pickled eyeballs was ah pretty fun, even though it wasn’t directly killing somebody, but that.

20:42.61
Rhys
Well, I mean, they were dead when he harvested them. So

20:46.38
Stephen Schneider
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, and you know, it, it’s running around the theater and, they, you mentioned following the rules. How many times were we like, Oh my God, don’t stop.

21:01.33
Stephen Schneider
Just run out the door. Oh my God. Stab him again. Kill him. Hit him in the head. Don’t stop doing that. And they, they followed all the rules of, like you said, slasher physics. No, we can’t hit him again.

21:11.91
Stephen Schneider
Cause it’s only halfway through the movie and he’d be dead too quick.

21:14.64
Rhys
Yes.

21:14.77
Stephen Schneider
Yes.

21:16.39
Rhys
And we have a final girl and we have a sequel bait child, you know all kinds of really, and it is like conceptually like that would be a nightmare, right?

21:20.70
Stephen Schneider
Yes.

21:28.85
Rhys
Going to see a horror movie and then being locked inside as someone walks around and kills everybody else.

21:29.01
Stephen Schneider
Right.

21:35.10
Stephen Schneider
Right.

21:35.96
Rhys
ah

21:37.61
Stephen Schneider
but Now, if they want to follow it up with a second one, they really should do the sequel with the kid before he grows up.

21:37.87
Rhys
But yeah.

21:44.36
Stephen Schneider
I mean, a kid running around as a slasher, that’s that’s a little bit of a unique twist that would freak people out, I think.

21:50.89
Rhys
Yeah. Well, a running, talking puppet freaks people out, you know, that’s killing people, much less an actual child.

21:55.69
Stephen Schneider
sure no They should do the sequel where the kid is like just can consumed by this theater and he goes and kills people, but drags them to the theater and sets them up to watch the movie.

22:09.00
Stephen Schneider
The movie is just like playing on loop over and over for him. There you go.

22:12.85
Rhys
And then the theater is haunted by the ghosts of those people who died as well.

22:12.95
Stephen Schneider
There’s the plot.

22:16.71
Stephen Schneider
Right. Imploring people to leave, but they can’t see them. So it just goes floating around in agony, like in Christmas Carol.

22:23.58
Rhys
Good deal.

22:24.71
Stephen Schneider
Yeah, there we go.

22:25.00
Rhys
Yeah.

22:25.31
Stephen Schneider
We just wrote it. I mean, that’s how he did.

22:26.32
Rhys
Start working on that script.

22:27.84
Stephen Schneider
Yeah, you know, I’ll get some video going. So there’s our horror-a-thon. Like you said, we did bingo, and that was fun, ah the bingo. I mean, we didn’t really care who won. I’m glad Price got his first and that, but ah it it it would have been…

22:45.06
Stephen Schneider
I think more checks off if the movies had been little more variety in there, a little varied, but they were very similar in tone. So it’s like, we’re all sitting there going, well, I can’t check anything off.

22:57.05
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

22:58.11
Rhys
I think so. i was hanging out with the boys on Saturday and it was maybe Brian who pointed out that a lot of the movies being made presently are horror movies.

23:11.69
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

23:12.35
Rhys
And I was pointing out, you know, the, economics behind it, that it doesn’t matter how well it does in the box office. If you wait long enough, you’re making money off of it. And, you know, in this day of, you know, economics runs everything, you know, that makes it a safe investment.

23:27.93
Rhys
So I think, you know, if we, ah if we go into that, maybe next year’s, we’ll sit there and just look for all of the smaller ones that slipped by everybody from this past couple years.

23:40.91
Stephen Schneider
that That’s a good idea.

23:42.96
Rhys
And we could load up with that.

23:44.62
Stephen Schneider
Yeah, that’s probably a great idea because there’s tons that have come out. And there’s a few I’ve like, I came out last year. I didn’t even hear about it. Didn’t know about it.

23:54.18
Rhys
Yep.

23:54.23
Stephen Schneider
Or so the names don’t always give it away anymore. Like we were just talking about together that Michael Shanks wrote and directed, I believe from start Stargate guy.

24:02.29
Rhys
Yeah.

24:03.98
Stephen Schneider
And I’m like, oh we’re together. And I saw a man and woman. I’m like, oh, it’s, you know, must be a romance. And you’re like, oh it’s you so horror. And I’m like, are you kidding?

24:10.59
Rhys
It’s body horror.

24:11.82
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

24:12.63
Rhys
Yeah.

24:12.73
Stephen Schneider
So I’m like, huh, interesting.

24:14.84
Rhys
Yeah, yeah. I think if if you haven’t tried this, and I’m not talking about Steve, I’m talking about just you know our listeners in general. If you haven’t tried this, you can literally go to Google and type in horror movies from and then type in the year, and you’ll get a really good list.

24:31.92
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

24:32.05
Rhys
ah yeah There will be things for the casual horror viewer where you’re going to see like three titles, you’re like, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then everything else you’d be like, I didn’t even know that was out there.

24:42.87
Stephen Schneider
Right. And a lot of those sometimes turn out to be wonderful. We’ve found that out many times.

24:47.86
Rhys
For sure.

24:49.03
Stephen Schneider
I’ll tell everybody, my favorite of the last couple of years has been Presence, Haunted House Story. One of my favorite horror movies the last couple of years. It must be because I still remember the name of it and what it’s about after seeing 50 other movies. Right.

25:02.27
Rhys
Yeah.

25:02.63
Stephen Schneider
so

25:03.62
Rhys
But you know, like you do that with two 2023 strange darling is going to be on that list and we’d never heard of it. So.

25:10.39
Stephen Schneider
right Yeah, and the the two ever so of so Black Phone and Smile were on the list, and they were both ah really popular, and you had seen the one, so we, or maybe both, ah we we, okay.

25:16.15
Rhys
Mm-hmm.

25:23.05
Rhys
I hadn’t seen black phone price went to see the sequel and he enjoyed it a lot. Uh, and he hadn’t seen the first one even so.

25:29.75
Stephen Schneider
Yeah, well, Black Phone is on the list. It’s supposed to be really good. So I’m hopefully go watch it here soon. But then there’s also The Damned and In a Violent Nature. And they both look good. And The Damned was on my list from previously.

25:43.35
Stephen Schneider
So I think I’m going watch those anyway. So I’m basically watching all nine of the choices we had for the horror pod.

25:47.51
Rhys
You can do them many ways.

25:48.96
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

25:49.05
Rhys
Steve’s private horror thon.

25:51.17
Stephen Schneider
Yeah, well, that happens quite often around here. Me and Cassie, we sit and watch them. Then she sleeps. Except that was the one thing that’ll remind us about this stupid year was the anxiety ridden dog walking and tapping, pacing the whole damn time.

26:08.10
Stephen Schneider
Wouldn’t settle down and go to sleep or anything. So

26:10.91
Rhys
ah probably five miles and loops just around the living room.

26:14.65
Stephen Schneider
probably like, man, dog, somebody’s going to shoot you if you keep this up. But yeah. So. And that was more because somebody was sitting on her couch. Oh, dear Lord.

26:23.75
Rhys
Right. Yeah.

26:26.16
Stephen Schneider
ah

26:26.27
Rhys
Oh, well in the past, I’ve always gone and sat on the couch. You’re like, you won’t be able to get out. And I’m like, I’ll take my chances. And every time big dog climbs up in the couch with me. yeah.

26:36.40
Stephen Schneider
yeah Well, yeah. In her old age, she doesn’t even want climb up on there by anybody. She just wants you off.

26:42.28
Rhys
Oh, I don’t care that I can’t get up there.

26:43.02
Stephen Schneider
That’s the thing now.

26:45.72
Rhys
i just don’t want you here.

26:47.43
Stephen Schneider
Yeah.

26:47.81
Rhys
That’s nice.

26:47.83
Stephen Schneider
Oh man. I’ll tell you, there’ve been a couple of the kids that have come over and they sit on the couch and she’ll like stand there staring at them until they move. They get up and she jumps up there and curls around like Sheldon’s spot.

26:58.79
Stephen Schneider
It’s, you know, her and Sheldon are like this.

27:01.37
Rhys
Yeah. Nice.

27:02.64
Stephen Schneider
so All right, so there’s Horrorathon. If anyone is still doing a horror marathon or ah going to do one, we’ve got the bingo cards up on the website. It was fun. ah There’s enough variety to get quite a few people with those.

27:15.60
Stephen Schneider
It really only works if you go do multiple movies because I tried to get a variety on those cards. So you got some supernatural, you got some ghosts, you got some slasher stuff. So one movie is not going to cover all of them.

27:25.20
Rhys
yeah

27:28.07
Rhys
you If you want people to have that available, you’re going to have to crank this thing out.

27:33.25
Stephen Schneider
Well, they’re up there.

27:33.68
Rhys
help Right around the corner.

27:34.57
Stephen Schneider
ye It’s a PDF. Download it, print it out yourself. So, all right, man there we go. 2025 horror-a-thon. ah So here we’re getting ready for a horror feast of scary movies coming up.

27:50.17
Rhys
Yeah. Yeah.

27:50.94
Stephen Schneider
me All right.

27:51.69
Rhys
Always look forward to these.

27:54.03
Stephen Schneider
Talk to you later, man.

27:55.06
Rhys
See ya.
