It’s Christmas time. That means it’s time for a bit of seasonal scares.

Let’s take a look at the various Krampus movies that are available. If you don’t know Krampus, he is the Christmas devil, sometimes Santa’s evil brother. He takes the naughty children – basically the opposite of Saint Nicholas.

There are a couple movies out there. Most are smaller, independent movies with varying degrees of quality.

Krampus (2015) – Let’s start with the big budget one from about 10 years ago. This one actually made our list and we reviewed it as an episode from season 02 – Krampus. Basically, it’s a good movie and well worth a cold night scare.

Krampus: The Christmas Devil and Krampus 2: The Devil Returns – These are both from Jason Hull who wrote and directed. The quality isn’t bad and it’s an interesting story focused on a cop. Santa and Krampus definitely work out who’s doing what, and it’s one of the meanest Santa’s I’ve seen.

Krampus Unleashed and Krampus: The Reckoning – I liked Unleashed better than the Reckoning. The Krampus looked better. The Reckoning looked like a reused alien video game character from 20 years ago. Again, overall, it’s fair viewing.

Krampus Origins – This is a pretty good looking movie. Well shot, pretty good acting, but not so much for the story. They really alter the mythology of where Krampus comes from.

Mother Krampus and Mother Krampus 2 – Not sure how, or if, these are actually connected. The second one was filmed in Cleveland, so it’s got a local flavor for me. I didn’t care for how they used Krampus but was basically a psycho for both.

Krampus: The Return –

This one was bland. The story and the acting. Some typical bad reactions to situations and implausible actions – like running through a door and hiding right next to it and then Krampus steps into the doorway and looks into the room then looks left then leaves. Great hiding spot it seems. The Krampus didn’t look that good to me.
