There are plenty of movies based on Stephen King stories. Some very good stories and some very good movies. This Brian DePalma movie is an early King adaptation based on his first novel.
Now, I never though Carrie was great. I didn't read it first, so that's probably a lot to do with it. And I don't remember watching this movie before - probably because there were plenty of other movies for me to enjoy.
I should have trusted Brian DePalma. This movie (with a lot of familiar faces), nails the book. And it's done in a very stylistic way. Unlike The Shining (which many people cite as a great movie, I'm not a big fan), Carrie gets everything right - adaptation of the book while making it a classic movie.
For all I've said I didn't want to watch the movie, I take it back. If you're looking for a good movie and a great Stephen King adaptation, this is it.
